Club Rollei User – Issue 54

by John Wild on 25 July 2022

My Welcome in the last issue, mentioned Photographica.

It was good to see Brian Mickleboro and Bill Hill were on good form with their usual friends paying them a visit. Steve and Julie Barham were busy on their stand. Steve told me he had had an amazing interest in the Rollei 35 models he had on display. David Morgan said he had found some items that might be of interest to readers and he would be advertising them in due course.

As in the last few years I didn't see anything that I really needed, could afford, find space for or sneak into the house without my wife questioning why I had bought more camera gear. I did find some Rollei digital back brochures, which I have seen the German version listed on Ebay but these were in English. There must be a number of brochures for obscure items, which would have limited appeal to the wider market. Probably these were printed in small numbers and possibly only in German. English versions could very well be rare but I am sure they have no significant rarity value because interest in them would be limited too. Other than those, I went back empty handed, rather than a few years ago when I bought a pair of Rolleivision 66AV projectors together with a fade/stereo/panoramic controller. Struggling back to Victoria station under the weight, I felt like a packhorse. I also felt similar when I collected my Hasselblad Flextight 646 scanner from north London. Taking a sack truck with a large heavy box up and down escalators on the underground and finding space for this, my son and myself on a crowded rush hour train with standing room only was an experience I do not wish to repeat.

Summer is passing rapidly and my camera has not seen daylight except for the spring meeting in Minehead and visit to Košice, Slovakia with my wife and daughter. Both outings in May were blessed with bright sunny weather; a joy to be out and about.
I have been building a flat-pack shepherd’s hut for my wife’s sewing machine. Dodging the rain has added to the length of time required. I am currently about one day away from finishing the roof. Then I have to start the interior insulation and tongue and groove boarding. There are no instructions as such, just the design drawings. The drawing notation suggests it is from Eastern Europe.

I have agreed not to question my wife’s sewing equipment if she does not question my camera equipment. Although I do wonder why she needs a large 5m x 2.5m hut for a sewing machine.
