Club Rollei User – Issue 49

by John Wild on 17 November 2018

I cannot believe where the time has gone. Possibly because of the awful weather this winter and having keep my head buried under a blanket, I have lost track of the time. It has been suggested by weather forecasters that La Niña, leading to cooler water temperatures in the Pacific ocean which has had an effect on our winter weather, being colder and with more likelihood of heavy snow. I do not think they have been wrong – for a change. As I write this, it does seem to be warming up at last and with longer days, on the positive side, I hope to take my cameras out. I hope that you will be similarly enthusiastic and be able to submit photos for the July edition and to enter some in the October postal print competition.

Some film types are being reintroduced by Kodak, Fuji has a new 35mm film and Macodirect in Germany are stocking new products; Rollei papers, Ilfordpapers, Ferrania B&W 35mm film and Kodak cine films. These products deserve to be tested and you can send me a report on them. I have tried the new Adox Scala 160 – B&W reversal film, also available from Macodirect. There was not space in this issue to report on the results, so I’ve saved it for July.

I had an enjoyable and interesting trip to Braunschweig at the end of February, report further on, and I have arranged to go back later this month, which I am very much looking forward to.

The 2018 Photographica fair is being held on Sunday 20th May 2018 at the Royal Horticultural Society's Lindley Hall in Vincent Square, Victoria, central London. David and I look forward to bumping into some of you there. Bumping is truely the way there; many people with their back packs do not use their rear view mirrors as they move from table to table. Returning home with a bag of goodies, loads of bruises and trodden-on feet is the sign of a good day out!

In the meantime, I have to take advantage of the dryer weather to cut the grass and do some weeding before the garden starts to look like the Amazon jungle.
